London’s Polish Borders

Transnationalizing class and ethnicity among Polish Migrants in London

A Senior Lecturer at Department Social Sciences at the University of Roehampton and a Polish immigrant whose family still remembers war, Michal P. Garapich investigates anthropology, migration to urban centers, homelessness and resistance. Garapich explores the significant impact of the Polish immigrant community, the second largest group in the United Kingdom – seen by how well-established of an icon is the figure of the Polish plumber or builder.

This anthropological study takes into account the interactions between the Polish community and the society the host country, never isolating each experience. The book’s ethnographic research, undertaken for a decade, focuses on discursive actions, policies, family connections, transnational networks, and political engagement of the diaspora.
