Mozambique: from emergency to recovery
On March 24th, a team of 24 doctors, nurses and psychologists left on a mission to set up and operate the Portuguese Red Cross Field Hospital in Beira, following the damages of cyclone Idai. The team was led by Lara Martins, vice-president of the Portuguese Red Cross. Nurse Maria de Jesus Maceiras boarded the plane with the goal of implementing emergency mother-child protection measures and providing training to the local medical community. Maria knew that there were lives waiting to be born.
