Slow Food – Not Wasted Lives
Abdul and Safa, refugees of the Syrian Civil War, found an opportunity for a fresh start in Portugal, with Jerónimo Martins Group. Abdul is working with Recheio in the Export Department, and Safa with the Pingo Doce store of Massamá, as a bakery technician. For this edition of the Feed magazine, we recorded a conversation between the two, over lunch at the Mezze restaurant.
The Mezze restaurant is a project from “Pão a Pão”, a non-profit organization founded in 2016 to help refugees and promote their integration within Portuguese society. Its launch was supported by the Jerónimo Martins group, through the Recheio cash&carry. The restaurant is now managed by a group of 10 Syrian refugees, under the guidance of Pão a Pão association.
