The green lung breathes again. One year after its launch, the “Serra do Açor Forest” reforestation project sees great progress. More than 570,000 trees of fire-resistant species will have been planted by the end of 2022 with the support of Jerónimo Martins.
A new forest: resilient to fires, sustainable and productive. This is “Floresta Serra do Açor” project’s final goal. In the first five years, 85% of the area to reforest will combine pine with native species. Most of them regenerate naturally after felling, thus ensuring continuity of the forest.
In the green heart of Portugal, Serra do Açor was seriously affected by the 2017 wildfires. Jerónimo Martins will allocate 5 million euros to support a 40-year reforestation project that is already a source of hope for the region.
The “SOS Pollinators” campaign was launched in 2015 to raise public awareness on the importance of pollinators. Quercus vice-president, Nuno Sequeira, details the campaign’s multiple initiatives.
